Richard Elliott Westcott Obituary
January 6, 1949 – August 14, 2026

Richard Westcott, 77, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on August 14, 2026. He was born in Los Angeles, California, on January 6, 1949, to James and Caroyl Westcott.

He is survived by his daughter, Kara (Dennis), and his grandchildren, Emily and Matthew. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 52 years, Barbara.

Rick was proud to have been appointed to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, graduating as a member of the Class of 1970. He went on to complete 28 years of distinguished naval service. Captain Westcott received numerous honors and decorations, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, two Battle ā€œEā€ Ribbons, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, and the Arctic Service Ribbon. He concluded his military career with an assignment at U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska.

After retiring from the Navy, Rick began a successful second career. He earned his MBA and worked for OPPD, the local power utility, from 1998 to 2011.

Rick is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Carolyn), Don (MaryKay), and Penny (Pete), as well as many nieces and nephews. He built a life anchored in hard work, honesty, courage, and a deep love for his family, friends, and neighbors. His wisdom, steady guidance, appreciation for fine wine, and, above all, his devotion to his family will be remembered and deeply missed.

Captain Westcott, the watch stands relieved. May you rest in peace.
